Position:                     Garment Technician


Location:                   Auckland


The Garment Technician is responsible for the production of garment specifications, technical advice to onshore and offshore manufacturing factories and attending fit meetings with the Product Development Manager and Design Manager as required – ensuring the integrity of the design and the highest level of quality is maintained at all times. Effective time management of activities will achieve team goals and objectives.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Prepare technical packs to enable the smooth and swift production of accurate prototype and salesman samples.
  • Accurately measure each garment and record in Excel specification sheets.
  • Execute detailed working drawings.
  • Check all construction and design details – both inside and outside of the garment – both match and are recorded accurately in specification sheets prior to sending.
  • Check and amend any measurements as required.
  • Check all patterns, fabric & trim information is included in the technical packs prior to sending.
  • Complete technical packs according to critical path deadlines.
  • Communicate clear and accurate technical information in packs and emails to suppliers.
  • Ensure packs are ready to be sent each day to reach courier deadlines.
  • Enter style details into the critical path each day.
  • Keep prototype files up to date & filed by supplier.
  • Communicate with suppliers answering technical questions relating to technical packs.
  • Assist as required in the fit approval process.
  • Measure and inspect all samples for workmanship prior to fitting.
  • Ensure approvals are completed according to the required standard in  collaboration with PDM and Senior Designer.
  • Record all fit comments and amendments to garments.
  • Process fit amendments through technical packs and advise suppliers of any amendments and further prototype requirements as needed.
  • Support OSC with tech pack amendments as required.
  • Draw and sketch garments as required using Corel Draw &/or Illustrator.
  • Amend and prepare art work for prints and designs as required.
  • As part of the Design Team, assist in any area of range preparation as required.
  • Assist all team members in any area on any task within reason.
  • Keep and maintain a tidy and organized office area.
  • Attend company meetings when required.
  • Demonstrate and support company culture and values at every possibility.
  • File all information logically in seasonal folders.


Skills, Experience and Attributes Required:


  • Previous experience as a Garment Technician.
  • Experience using Lectra, CorelDraw or Illustrator.
  • Ability to create accurate specification sheets in Excel.
  • Patternmaking experience is preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of garment construction is essential.
  • An eye for detail and initiative in your work.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Self –starter and able to efficiently multi-task.
  • Be self-motivated and be able to both lead and work within a supportive team.
  • Have the desire to be committed and passionate towards the company’s vision and values.
