Position:                     Fashion Workroom Supervisor

Location:                   Auckland

The Workroom Supervisor is responsible for planning and organizing the on-shore production of women’s ranges designed by a New Zealand fashion icon. Reporting to the Designer, Senior Design Team Leader, Retail General Manager and Accounts Manager, and responsible for a team of dressmakers, junior workroom employees, sample cutters, pattern makers and outworkers, the role is multi-faceted and extremely busy.

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Plan and establish work schedules, assignments and production sequences to meet production goals.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in making made to measure garments.
  • Assign duties to employees according to type of garment and alteration to be performed.
  • Examine and review work of employees to ensure quality workmanship and to detect faulty work.
  • Delegate duties of absent workers.
  • Train new employees.
  • Requisitions supplies, materials, equipment parts.
  • Confer with employees, Retail General Manager, Designer and customers involved regarding garment alterations.
  • Recommend or implement measures to motivate employees and improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality and efficiency.
  • Attend to dressmaking duties as required.
  • Read and analyse work orders, production schedules and other records and reports to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and output.
  • Work closely with Retail General Manager to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Take direction from Designer when required.
  • Co-ordinate and encourage all young junior design assistants.
  • Assist Retail General Manager with client coordination when Designer is not available.
  • Oversee relationships with workroom and shop team.             

 

Skills, Experience and Attributes Required:

 

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar local production role a must!
  • Tertiary qualification in fashion preferred.
  • Keen eye for detail.
  • Team player.
  • Accurate data entry skills.
  • Excellent communication.
  • Computer literacy.
  • The ability to establish excellent working relationships with customers, colleagues and suppliers.
